Basilicas in Poland—Bialystok
I blogged about the following basilica on February 28, 2020.
- Archcathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Bialystok, Podlaskie.
Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Rozanystok, Podlaskie
Declared a minor basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1987.
A local landowner purchased a 1652 Madonna and by 1658 miraculous events were said to have occurred. A small wooden church contained the painting until the current Baroque and Rococo church, as well as a Dominican monastery, were completed in the late 18th Century. This area became part of Russia in 1807 and the Dominican order was dissolved by Czar Nicholas I in 1846. Czar Nicholas II gave the property to the Russian Orthodox Church in 1866. Orthodox nuns came in 1901 but fled invading armies in 1915 taking the painting with them. The property is returned to the Catholic Church in 1918 and a replica of the Madonna painting is completed in 1929. The church is now operated by the Salesians.

Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Wegrow, Masovia
Declared a minor basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1997.
The basilica is also dedicated to Sts. Peter, Paul, Andrew, and Catherine. The parish was established in 1414 and a Gothic church was built in the early 16th Century. Local rulers gave the church to Protestants in 1558. Catholics regained the church in 1630, but it burned down in 1703. The current Baroque church was completed in 1711. It was bombed in 1939 and was closed during the Second World War. It reopened after the war ended. Lech Walesa was married here in 1969.

Basilica of the Holy Trinity and St. Anne, Prostyn, Masovia
Declared a minor basilica by Pope Benedict XVI in 2011.
A parish was established here in 1344 and eventually two churches were built—Holy Trinity and St. Anne. Both churches were destroyed many times due to war or weather. The current church was destroyed during the Second World War but was rebuilt by 1954 and combined the two churches. It has a 16th Century statue of the Holy Trinity—Throne of Grace—which has drawn pilgrims for centuries.
