Basilicas in Western Brazil
I blogged about the following basilica on September 1, 2020.
- Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of the Good Lord Jesus, Cuiaba, Mato Grosso
Basilica Shrine of Our Lady of Nazareth of Exile, Belem, Para
Declared a minor basilica by Pope Pius XI in 1923.
An image of Our Lady was discovered in the 18th Century and a small chapel was built for pilgrims. The current neoclassical church began construction in 1909. Since most of the building materials came from Europe, it was not completed until after the Second World War. It has 54 stained glass windows.

A chapel was first built here in 1848 and subsequent chapels followed. Construction of the current Basilica began in 1943 and continued until 1994. It is said to be the only basilica in the world dedicated to God the Father.
